1495 SPATENBOHRER • SPADE DRILL GUIDELINE FOR USE • Take the shortest holder possible for the application. • Be sure that the holder is held securely and is within 0,02 up to 0,07mm of centerline. • Ensure that the insert outer diameter is a minimum 0,3mm larger than the holder body diameter. • Recommended base material of inserts: see page 1496 • Recommended cutting speed and feed: see page 1497 • Minimum coolant requirements: see page 1499 • Machine power / thrust requirements: please ask us if required. • The manufacturing tolerance of our spade drill inserts is -h8/+0,01mm. E.g.: For an insert with diameter 29mm, means the tolerance of the insert is 29mm -0,033/+0,01mm. • The hole tolerance under optimal conditions is H10. E.g.: For an insert with diameter 29mm, means the tolerance of the hole is 29H10 (29mm 0/+0,084). The mentioned cutting parameters are only guidelines and make no allowance for machine or component rigidity. Follow below drilling process for best results: • Drill a short hole 1×diameter deep initially. • The chips should be short in length, self colored, not bright or blue. (If not self colored see table “PROBLEM SOLVER” page 1502-1503) • Measure the hole produced. If the hole is within the desired tolerance go on with the drilling process. If not see table “PROBLEM SOLVER” page 1502-1503 • Take care that the drilling process is quiet and smooth with no chip packing. If chip packing happens stop drilling process and see table “PROBLEM SOLVER” page 1502-1503 Follow below drilling process if using extended length holder 12×D, 15×D for best results: • Drill a pilot hole using the same diameter drill insert in a short holder to a depth of 2-3 times the diameter deep. • Enter the pilot hole with the 12×D or 15×D holder without spindle speed at all or at low rpm (10-20). Never start or continue rotating of a 12×D, 15×D holder without proper engagement within a workpiece or fixture. Disregarding could result in tool failure and/or body injury. • Increase speed and feed to recommended data in table. The chips should be short in length, self colored, not bright or blue. Furthermore take care that chips are being evacuated by coolant throughout the length of the hole. If problems occur please see table “PROBLEM SOLVER” page 1502-1503 or contact Karnasch. • At the end of the drilling cycle do not remove the holder from the hole whilst at full rpm. Stop the spindle or reduce to low rpm. (10-20) • Carbide inserts should not be used in 12×D, 15×D holders without previous advice from Karnasch. Insert-installation on holders • The insert should be installed in the slot of the holder. The insert has a location groove ( A) which fits perfectly into the location-pin of the holder and is fixed with an included Hexalobular internal screw. • Use only the provided Hexalobular internal screws which should be tightened to the values listed on page 311 • When required place corrosion protection paste onto the Hexalobular internal screws for example NEVER SEEZ • The holder slot should be clean and free from dirt or debris. 10 Index 9 8 OIL 7 MACHINES 6 5 4 3 2 1
